{Workplace Wednesday} How to Stylishly Wear Denim at Work

Denim at the workplace is becoming more commonplace as offices are embracing a more casual work attire. But just because you can wear denim to the office doesn’t mean that it’s free license to dress sloppy. Save your distressed boyfriend jeans for the weekend. Jeans may be the obvious choice when you think of denim, but there are other options as well. Adding a fitted denim shirt to your work wardrobe can offer another dress option while still making you look professional. Pair with a lady-like skirt and bright colored shoes and you are ready to tackle any meeting.

Jenna Lyons, Creative Director for J. Crew, wore denim to this years Met Gala with a gorgeous pink skirt. While I think she was able to pull it off, it’s not something I would recommend most people to try when dressing for a formal event. But adding denim pieces to your work wardrobe is a great way to expand your closet.

Happy Friday! I am so excited for the weekend. It’s supposed to be beautiful here in the city and on top of that Sunday is Mother’s Day. So much to do and celebrate. And speaking of celebrating, these Charlotte Olympia heels make me want to do backflips. They are beyond gorgeous and would be perfect for any shoe loving Mom. (Hint, hint…Hubby take note!)

I started searching for recipe ideas and came across this one from Martha Stewart. My mouth is watering as I write this post, caviar gets me every time! Weekend Snapshots

This past weekend was so much fun, and I’m sad that it’s already over. It was jam packed with fun festivities. And as an extra bonus the weather was beyond beautiful. Here is a glimpse into my life this past weekend through the “eyes” of my photos. I’m ready to hit the beach again and already counting down the days till next weekend!

Ready for the Weekend Festivities

It’s Friday and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend for sure. Last year I was on the East Coast at an annual Kentucky Derby event my husband’s family has hosted for many years. There were big hats, delicious southern food and the largest personally owned collection of silver mint julep cups I have ever seen (I’m talking 300+). I can’t believe it has already been a year since we were there.With so much going on the past few months we didn’t make the trip back East for the Derby Party, but I will be following on the West Coast. My odds are on Daddy Long Legs. We’ll just have to see on Saturday!

And speaking of Saturday, it also happens to be Cinco de Mayo. I’ve already started creating my menu…I’m thinking Mexican pot roast tacos, mango salsa and tequila cookies. Check back on Monday to see the final outcome.

When I think of Cinco de Mayo the first thing that comes to mind is color. It’s everywhere between the food to decor. So I’m thinking my Alexandre Birman sandals would be the perfect shoe for Saturday. Bright and festive. I got them last year when I was shopping for a client and the color just called out to me. Yes, hazards of the job!

Off to get everything for my Cinco de Mayo menu and to figure out what I’ll be wearing with my sandals. Happy Friday.

With so many amazing handbag designers out there including all of my first loves (Celine, Prada, Balenciaga…) it takes a lot to stop me in my tracks. But that’s exactly what handbag designer, Lena Erziak did to me two years ago when I first saw the collection. I purchased a handbag immediately and it’s still one of my favorites today. Each season’s collection continues to mesmerize me each time.

Sisters, Leona and Hasna Erziak, are the design-duo behind the brand. Surrounded by art all their lives growing up in Europe, they have an inherent love and appreciation for luxury and fashion. What was your favorite memory from your first mother’s day?

JC: For my first mother’s day, I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter. Even though she hasn’t quite entered the world yet, the connection I had with her felt very strong. I was really thankful to have a baby girl on the way, and it was just the most amazing feeling to experience being a mother for the very first time.

You have an amazing blog and brand, as well as being a mom and wife…What is your secret to managing it all?

JC: I just think that it’s so important for every woman to step out the role of a mother and be yourself sometimes. It’s so easy to devote all our time to care for the little ones that we forget who we are, the passion that we had, or to live the dreams we want to live. I guess one thing I’ve been trying to do is to develop a business hour for myself (which is very hard to do when you’re working for yourself!) This way, I make sure I carve out time for myself and for the family.

What will be one of your beauty secrets you will share with your daughter?

JC: As much as I love make-up, I would love to have my daughter hold off on that for as long as she can. I still think natural beauty is the way to go. If anything, I would encourage her to take care of her skin by having a good cleansing routine and maintain a clean balanced diet.

Describe your personal style.

JC: I think overall, my aesthetic is pretty modern. I love colors and whimsical designs. And lately, I’ve been really drawn to the casual chic look.

Shoes or Handbags?

JC: Shoes!

What is the best advice your mom ever gave you?

JC: Don’t always depend on your husband’s income. Make your own money, have your own savings, and spend it any way you like it!

It’s Trending Neon For Spring 2012

Showing its versatile side for spring, neon has become a go-to hue for the season. There’s nothing I love more than color, especially neon. I’m such an 80′s girl at heart!

If wearing the fun colors as your main outfit is too much color to commit to, add pops of neon in your accessories or even your make-up. This season, the more color the better.
