With technology and social media on the rise, we are becoming accustomed to the behind-the-scenes access of some of our favorite designers and luxury brands. We love seeing the real personality behind the designs; how they were inspired, the thoughts and inner workings.  It's not just about the brands but the people and personalities behind them. Last year we saw the amazing success of Alexander McQueen's Retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  It was such a hot ticket that they extended the exhibit.  As the exhibit was nearing the end of its run, there were massive lines just to get in and see.  With the success of the McQueen exhibit, it was only a matter of time before more designers followed suit. Valentino is taking it to the next level by not only having an exhibition but launching an entire museum, all online.  The  Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum, is a downloadable desktop application that uses immersive 3D technology to showcase five decades of Valentino Garavani archives. It includes over 5,000 images of dresses, illustrations and photographs as well as 95 fashion show videos.  The beauty of this museum is that there's no travel, waiting in line or admission cost.  I can only anticipate the dresses, sketches and photographs...it will be an amazing fashion experience. Valentino will officially launch the online archive with a press conference, which will be live streamed on YouTube on December 5, 2011.  I will be clearing my schedule that day to wander around this museum.

Visit The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum site to sign up for updates.

Mini and lately Maxi skirts have been the standard for the past few seasons, but we are seeing a new length emerge...the Midi.  Whether it's the high-waisted pencil or classic A-line, it is a trend we will continue to see through next Fall.  Styled correctly, the midi is at the forefront of sophistication. It is the perfect length for the office.  Classic yet chic. Whether you wear high boots in fall or booties in spring,  you will come across chic while doing so! Make sure to balance out the length of the skirt by choosing one with a high fitted waist.

Classic, chic and stylish...your boss will be so proud!

I loved watching this short film today, Daphne Guinness: Undressed, and learning more about the behind-the-scenes of her recent collaboration with Barneys when she styled the Alexander McQueen windows.  It is amazing peek into her life and thoughts as well as a small part of her closet.  NOWNESS is one site that should be on your daily must-read! Below is the summary of the film from NOWNESS.  You can view the video here: Daphne Guinness: Undressed Documentary filmmaker Brennan Stasiewicz infiltrates the cosseted world of Daphne Guinness in Daphne’s Window. Featuring intimate footage of the icon at her Fifth Avenue apartment, the short follows the eccentric fashion patron and socialite as she prepares for her recent installation in the windows of Barneys New York. The storefront showcased her collection of pieces by designer Lee Alexander McQueen and a selection from the archive of fashion editor Isabella Blow, which Guinness purchased in its entirety last year. The display culminated in a performance art piece in which Guinness dressed for the Met ball in one of the flagship’s windows, modeling a lilac feathered gown designed by McQueen’s Sarah Burton. “She appears to me as someone always in a window,” says Stasiewicz. “Someone you can approach and see, but you remain on the other side.” This year brings a multitude of projects for the heiress: her sculptural armored glove collaboration with jeweler Shaun Leane (pictured in today’s film) will be exhibited by Jay Jopling in a private viewing in London later this month; and in September a retrospective at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology will pay homage to her style. “Daphne is someone to take pleasure in, and in many ways, someone who incites moments of wonder,” says Stasiewicz.

Who doesn't love a sale? I know I do! Because of this love we have seen various sale sites like Gilt and Hautelook successfully launch over the past few years.  While these sites are on my must check each morning, sometimes there's nothing better than finding that McQueen dress you have been lusting for all season to finally be on sale at your favorite department store.  This week all of my top favorite stores/sites are having their annual Spring sale. Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Saks and Net-a-Porter...what more could a girl ask for?

SPLURGE: Alexander McQueen Dress - Retail: $3360 Sale: $2016

Sales are a great way to of course justify purchasing that trendy item that you just weren't sure about at full price!  In addition to stocking up on the current trends, sales are a great way to purchase key investment pieces for your wardrobe.  As I've mentioned before, having a great wardrobe starts with a core group of basics.  These pieces should be the ones you invest a bit more of your budget to in order to last you through the years.  The great thing about designer sales is that you can get high-quality items at what you would normally pay full-price for mid-tired items.

Happy Shopping my loves!

As you all know I was in New York last week for the Fashion140 conference and meetings. I managed to Instagram my way through NYC. For those of you not familiar with Instagram, it's my new favorite iPhone app...I'm addicted. [imagebrowser id=9] Instagram is a iPhone app that allows users to snap a photo (or use an existing one), apply one of several filters to it and then share to their various social networks. Unlike other photo-finessing apps, this one will keep you coming back for more. In fact for me it is now one of the streams I check in the morning along with my others. It has become it's own social network allowing users to follow and view friends' photos, comment, and view the stream of images from the Instagram network. The app is so easy to use and seamlessly shares photos to Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Tumblr and Flickr. I love the vintage feel of my photos after using one of the filters. It's a Polaroid photo from back in the day all digitalized. I especially love that most of the photos you see in everyone's streams are taken by them so you get to "see" what they are seeing and experiencing. Almost as if you are there with them. Since launching in late 2010, Instagram gained 1 million users in its first three months and doubled it to 2 million three weeks later. According to RJMetrics, Instagram is adding 130,000 registered new users weekly. Not bad for an app that was originally created just for the iPhone platform. But that has all changed since they unveiled their API recently. There will be many complimenting programs incorporating the Instagram technology. Two of my favorites are Instadesk, allowing one to see their streams on their desktop, and Postgram where one can instantly print and send Instagram photos straight from the web or iPhone. The possibilities will be endless...this is one application to watch.

Congratulations William & Kate

What is it about weddings, especially ones with real princes that grab our fascination so much?  I guess we all have Walt Disney to thank for our love affair with the common girl finding her prince charming and living happily every after.

This royal wedding has been anticipated and talked about ever since William & Kate started dating.  Since the engagement the frenzy went into overdrive speculating who would design the bride's dress (Sarah Burton for McQueen) what would the groom wear (military uniform) and who would be in attendance (Elton John, Posh & Becks).  I won't mention how old I was when Charles and Diana got married but I remember devouring anything that had to do with the wedding.  This time I didn't stay up and watch the wedding happen live...I like my sleep! The great thing is that I didn't have to wait an entire day to see images or even wait for an edited version of the wedding.  Thanks to social media and technology I have an abundant amount of resources to get my Royal Wedding fix the moment I opened my eyes.  I'm an instant gratification girl.

For me this time I am more fascinated with the fashion and those hats! I'm heading to a Kentucky Derby event next week and us Americans don't stand a chance next to British women and their hats. They are fierce. The the main attraction for me is of course Kate's wedding dress.  I can't even explain how excited I am that she choose Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen to design her dress.  She chose a designer that not only emulates Britian's world class fashion but is by far one of the most talented designers in the world today. Kate could have chosen a "safer" fashion house, due to the tragic passing of Alexander McQueen last year, but in choosing what she loves she has boldly stepped out from behind Diana's shadow to be her own person in a classy and chic way. I love that she also chose an ivory colored dress from the same designer for her sister. Again, making a bold decision by choosing a color not common for a bridesmaid dress.

The guests were equally stylish as well, showing up in amazing hats, with color choices for their ensembles ranging from soft pastels to bold, bright colors.  I thought the Queen would wear blue, but I love that she's embracing the bold color trend of S/S 2011 by choosing yellow instead.  It was truly a fashionable wedding.

Wishing both William and Kate a lifetime of happiness.  Prove to us all that fairy tale dreams do come true!
