Luxury Flash Sale Pioneer Vente-Privee Looking for Success in the U.S.

Online flash sale sites are nothing new to the US consumer since Gilt.com debuted in 2007 and others soon followed.  What most people may not know is that French company Vente-Privee, is credited with developing the luxury flash sales model in Europe that has been so widely adapted by many U.S. companies including Gilt Groupe.

Having been successful in Europe, Vente-Privee has finally set its sights on the U.S. market and teamed up with American Express launching its site at end of 2011.  The joint venture site features member-only sales events with premium European and American brands at up to 70 percent off. Each day’s sale will begin at 10am EST and last 72 hours.  According to WWD the U.S. Vente-Privee division “expects to generate $500 million in annual sales within the next three to four years, having brought in $1.28 billion in revenue in Europe last year.”  Those are big shoes to fill in an already over-saturated  market of online flash sales in the U.S.  But with major success in Europe and partnering with American Express, the combined expertise of two global brands committed to serving both consumers and businesses, Vente-Privee hopes to brings a new model of e-commerce to the United States.

Joining Vente-Privee is a great way to get introduced to smaller European brands selling on the site that most U.S. consumers might not otherwise know.  Currently on the site, there is a sales event for men which offers members the opportunity to purchase a customed-tailored suit, shirt and tie.  With more unique and luxury offerings like this, this joint venture may very much succeed in the U.S. market and reach its inintal monetary goal.
